Yes, YOU CAN Write a BETTER BLOG! Here's how...

Hey are you writing or thinking of writing a BLOG? (BTW-This works for ANY KIND of Blog)

(Got this GREAT #BLOG How To from my friend Simon Sanders at SVT Media...thank you!)

DeDe in-studio writing her Music Stuff Blog, while mixing her #NewAlbum "Dream of You"!
Do you want to write better?
If the answer is “hec yeah“, then I’ve got some great tips for you.
When you are writing a piece of content, it needs to trigger the right emotions and persuade the reader to continue to read your content and not hit the “back button”.
Sometimes, this is difficult to accomplish.
In this article, I will show you some proven copywriting techniques which will help you to become a better writer, boost your conversion rates, increase search traffic, sales and turn fleeting visitors into fans.
Let’s get started!

1. Write Epic Content

If you want to build a passionate audience, it begins with writing epic content. Period.
If you are writing something to inspire people, to stir emotions, you need to provide value and most importantly, you need to blow them away with your words.
Even with all the promotion in the world, if your content is average, your site content will never become popular.
Have you heard of Ramit Sethi?
He receives over 300,000 visitors every month, but the truth, which no one really talks about, is the amount of time he spends writing his blog posts. Every single blog post takes him 12 to 18 hours to write, and this is why he has grown 99.9% of blogs out there because his content is epic.
Are you spending that much time on your content?
You may already know there are thousands of sites and blogs who rewrite the same content repeatedly. Believe me, it’s difficult to stand out when using these tactics.
On the other hand, if you have great content, you have a huge advantage and can push your site to a whole new level and stand out from the crowd.

2. You have 15 seconds

According to a study, you only have 15 seconds to grab your audience’s attention. If within 15 seconds you are able to convince them that they need something badly, they will continue to read.
Make your audience desire your product, service, article or other in 15 seconds, that is all the time you have.

3. Find your quiet place

Sounds like a strange piece of advice, right?
This is one of the best pieces of advice you will ever receive as a writer. I always stress out when I have to write every day. I even do this thing whereby I set myself a limit of writing 500 words a day. I can’t remember how many times I have started and never actually followed through and completed it.
Instead of worrying about the daily word count or page count, concentrate by going to your quiet place and focusing for one hour on your writing without distractions. Don’t set any goals for yourself. No word counts, no pages. Just one hour of writing; good or bad.
By continuing this simple habit, your writing will improve more than you can imagine.

4. Kill Fear with accountability

When I started off, I was always terrified of what people thought of my writing. What if my writing is bad? What if people judge me? Some days I just couldn’t write and I postponed the writing until “tomorrow”. You know the feeling, right?
One of the ways you can overcome this fear is to find an accountability partner. It could be your spouse, friend, coworker, anyone – simply anyone who is willing to help you for 30 seconds a day. Every day, report to your partner via email, and include a) how long the writing process lasted. b) What you wrote about c) How it made you feel?
Try this technique. The benefits are great and your fear will disappear.

5. Make your text skimmable

The majority of people who come to a website, leave within 10 to 20 seconds and that’s why you need to quickly grab their attention.
Here is an image of two different posts:
You can probably tell already that you would press the “back” button if you saw a post similar to what were on the right side.

skim2
One of the ways to do this is to format your text in such a way that people can quickly understand the message you’re trying to convey. You can use few different methods to make your content digestible with few glances.
  1. Break up long paragraphs into shorter ones
  2. When using a subheading, describe a benefit
  3. Use bulleted and numbered lists
  4. When writing important sentences and facts, make sure to bold them
  5. Use images to bring clarity to your message
  6. Remove any elements from the webpage, which may distract the reader

6. Bucket Brigades

As with the last point, the attention span of people is short and that’s why we need to keep the reader engaged from the beginning.
Bucket Brigades are words and phrases that keep people on your page.

Backlinkto author, Brian Dean, uses this technique often and almost every piece of content he writes starts with a short bucket brigade followed by a colon.
Here’s an example:
It can be used to keep the reader on your site even when the content is long (1500+ words). It’s a technique, which was originally used to keep the target audience reading a sales letter.
It works well, and the average time spent on a page will drastically increase after implementing this technique.
You can simply use Budget brigades at the beginning of your blog posts or even in the middle. The most effective way to find where to place it is to consider at what point in the text your reader might hit the browser’s “back” button.
Here are some effective Bucket brigade classics:
  • Here’s the deal:
  • This is crazy:
  • What’s the bottom line?
  • You might be wondering:
  • Now:
  • It gets better/worse:
  • But here’s the kicker:
  • Want to know the best part?
Just pick a few and add them to your blog post. I’m confident that the average time people spend reading your content will increase.

7. Make amazing
 headlines

You probably spend many hours writing your content, but how much time do you spend crafting your headlines? Probably not enough.
A headline is important because 8 out of 10 people will read your headline copy, but only 2 out of 10 will continue to read.
ViralNova and Buzzfeed are most famous for their “clickbait” headlines, but even though they receive a lot of hate, their meteoric growth speaks for itself.

You have probably seen these headlines:
Obviously, some headlines are too much and slightly over the top, but they catch the attention of readers.
Here are some examples to draw inspiration from.
15 ___ That Will Change The Way You ___
This ___ Makes ___ 3x Better
Use These 3 Simple Hacks For More ____. #2 Is Awesome
When You Learn About ___ You’ll Never ____ Again
Here Are 6 ___ That ____. And They’re Backed By Science
I Tried ___. And Even I Was Surprised About What Happened Next
When you have crafted your headline, you may want to test it with Headline Analyzer. It’s really simple and accurate.

8. Use the word “you”

You should get rid of every line of copy that begins with “we”. Whether it is on your website or in an email newsletter.
Instead, begin with “you”.
Why?
People don’t want to hear about others, they want to hear about themselves. They have enough problems and questions on their own and they are looking for answers.
If you want to start conversions and write copy, which gets results then you need to start thinking of the word “we” as a word to never use.

9. Write conversationally

The act of writing is a conversation between the author and the reader. We have so much information from all mediums that if we don’t feel connected with the content, we will search for something else and click away to better content.
If you want to get your message across, then keep your copy as conversational as possible. Try using words and phrases that you use in everyday conversations and try writing in the same way, as you would talk to a friend. If you can do that, your copy won’t end up being dull and uninteresting.

10. Use power words to trigger emotions

You have definitely read articles or books from writers who have written with a magical ability to toy with your emotions. This kind of writing takes us on an emotional roller coaster ride, making us feel a certain way about that information.
You might want to consider doing the same thing. The easiest way is to use power words. The 20 most influential words, via David Ogilvy.
Suddenly
Now
Announcing
Introducing
Improvement
Amazing
Sensational
Remarkable
Revolutionary
Startling
Miracle
Magic
Offer
Quick
Easy
Wanted
Challenge
Compare
Bargain
Hurry
You can try using these words in your headlines, bullet points and subject lines. Of course, it takes time to get used to using “new” words, but try adding a few to your existing posts right now.

11. Use simple language

If you went to college, you were probably taught how to write using complex sentence structures and a use of vocabulary that a 7th grader couldn’t understand.

A GREAT REVIEW of "Dream of You" by SKOPE MAGAZINE ON FEB. 9, 2016!

I'D LIKE TO GIVE A BIG THANKS to MIKE FRIEDMAN of SKOPE MAGAZINE For This STELLAR REVIEW of my NEW ALBUM "DREAM OF YOU" WHICH RELEASES This FEBRUARY- (available to Fans on Feb. 12, 2016)!!

DeDe – ‘Dream of You’

“Dream of You” is an album full of joy. Lyrically the songs are optimistic and sunny. Her songs focus on the future that helps people move forward, as hercombination of storytelling and hope feel particularly satisfying. Arrangements are meticulous. Stylistically “Dream of You” effortlessly blends together elements offolk, country, and rock into a colorful whole. By far the highlight is DeDe’s deeply reassuring voice guiding the way. DeDe displays a careful knack for the perfect melody, as these are songs that linger in the mind long after they are over. Theattention to detailsong structure, even the gradual build-up, is absolutely astounding.

With the title track “Dream of You”, DeDe starts the song off on a quiet note. Elegantly executed string work introduces the song. DeDe’s voice takes command of the song as it gradually comes into bloom. Towards the end of the song all that remains is a spectacular soaring guitar which brings the song to a comforting close. Opting for a languid tempo is the hushed whispers of “Prime of Life”. Lyrically the song focuses on truly reaching one’s stride. Powerful and moving, “Stronger” possesses an impeccably crafted melody. Warm and soothing, the song’s driving rhythm helps to reinforce its sense of purpose. By far the highlight of the album is the intimate love song “My Unsung Hero” where everything simply works, from the affectionate lyrics to the nimble country rhythm.

A unique voice in the musical universe, DeDe’s “Dream of You” is full of gorgeous pop gems.

DeDe Wedekind's NEW Album "Dream of You" releases in Feb 2016!

Well, thanks to my friend and Editor in Chief at #WebHost Magazine & #Indie #Music Magazine (http://indiemusicmagazine.live/2016/02/06/dede/)  Randy Lockhart, there's sure
a lot to be thankful for! This is what he posted about me on 3 of his Indie Music Websites today (thanks Randy!):

DeDe Wedekind, or just “DeDe” as she goes by for music, is an award-winning singer/songwriter from Houston, Texas. DeDe won Song of the Year at the 2015 IMEA AWARDS in Atlanta this past October for her new single “Stronger” from her upcoming album, Dream of You. Dream of You is DeDe’s highly anticipated 4th album, which will be released on Feb 12, 2016.

For her new album, which has been almost 2 years in the making, DeDe’s been songwriting with Los Angeles-based Multi-Platinum Producer & Songwriter, Kevin DeClue (Hillary Duff, Charlie Midnight & Rihanna). DeDe wrote or co-wrote all the songs on Dream of You. This album and the new hit single: “Love Lives On”, were recorded at Nashville’s famed 515 Studio with Multi-Platinum mega-hit Songwriter & Producer, Andrew Fromm. Andrew is the songwriter for the ‘NSync “Millenium” album, the Backstreet Boys, Marc Anthony & many others, and he not only helped DeDe arrange the piano part for Love Lives On, but also is featured playing this song on DeDe’s new album.

DeDe’s currently a Featured New Artist with a 10-page! Spotlight on her music and her upcoming album in the February 2016 Indie Music Magazine (IMC Magazine pages 30-39), and you can find the article: DeDe: An Artist In Her Prime & Ahead of Her Time, here: http://www.theimcmag.com/. She’s also the Women of Substance Radio’s Featured Artist for February: http://www.wosradio.com. DeDe won 2 Albums of the Year (and one Song of the Year), from the International Music & Entertainment Awards in 2014 for Album #2: Love & Fairy Tales, and album #3: World of Christmas! Over the past 3 years of her 4-year career, DeDe’s been a repeat FINALIST in the following International Songwriting Contests: the International Songwriting Contest, The USA Songwriting Contest, the UK Songwriting Contest, the 2014 Annual Dallas Songwriting Contest, and Song of the Year.com’s 2015 Songwriting Contest in July 2015.  Read more...

DeDe's Music Featured on Pages 30-39 of the February 2016 Indie Music Coalition Magazine!

DeDe:  An Artist In her Prime-Ahead of Her Time by Beth Fedornak

At the October, 2015 International Music & Entertainment Awards (http://www.IMEAawards.com), we had the pleasure of hearing 2014 Two-time Album of the Year winner & 2015 Song of the Year winner, DeDe Wedekind, perform her Folk Song of the Year Nominee, “Prime of Life from her upcoming album Dream of You.  But her Song of the Year Category win that night was for her Adult Contemporary original, “Stronger”.

What sets this talented artist apart from others is not only her great vocals, which garnered her Best Vocalist in March 2014 on SingerUniverse.com, but her unique & versatile songwriting.  DeDe writes songs that cross many genres of music including: Adult Contemporary, Folk, Pop, Country-Pop, Rock, Americana, Singer/Songwriter, World Music, Jazz and Inspirational.   This was evident when at the 2014 IMEA Award Show she received 9 nominations in 7 different categories (the most of any IMEA Artist).

And indeed she was a winner: she went to the stage to accept a grand total of 3 IMEA awards that chilly October Night in Kentucky for: AC Album of the Year for Love & Fairy Tales (7/2013), Holiday Album of the Year for World of Christmas (11/2013), and Song of the Year for “Canon on the Lord’s Prayer”. This tied DeDe with friend and singer/songwriter Matthew Huff, Country Artist of the Year who also won 3 awards, the most awards won by any artists at the show. Says DeDe about this honor:

“We were all rooting for each other, all of us Indie artists who had been hanging in there, writing songs like crazy, and performing all over the place… in a very tough, sometimes brutal industry. I’d just joined the IMEA because it sounded like a worthwhile organization for indie artists-and it is. The rest was about timing: I decided to submit a bunch of songs from my 2 albums I’d just released in 2013 on a whim-thinking “what the hec”? I have all these new songs, and maybe these judges will like one of them?  But getting that many nominations, and that kind of real support and recognition for my music, well, that was only surpassed by getting to meet and know all of these other great indie artists from around the world- (struggling!) artists who were a lot like me. It was truly a watershed moment for my songwriting, and it was a life-changing and pivotal moment for me and my music career.”

Growing up near Houston, she hails from a long line of actors, storytellers and musicians on her father's Welsh side.  She is one of seven musical children from an exceptionally creative family.  DeDe herself is a classically-trained singer, pianist and flutist.  While she had pursued music on a part-time basis in her 20’s and early 30’s after a career in marketing, she came to realize that music was coming back into her life. Only about 7 years ago, DeDe started singing songs around the house that she’d never heard before, and started having dreams about music. It was at that moment she realized that her true calling was to pursue a more active role as a songwriter and musician.  She decided to hone her theory, performing and songwriting by returning to college for additional musical training. With the support of husband, Larry, she began to pursue music again full-time.

DeDe tells stories through her music: her original songs are about her feelings, her life, her personal thoughts, joys, losses, hopes, dreams and experiences. She feels that she has a calling: a gift for relating her music & melodies to what we all are experiencing in our real lives. “At first it was really scary for me to step out on a limb and try to start a new career in a field where I’m definitely not an expert. But I'm not afraid anymore," says DeDe. "Not afraid to say the things that I feel need to be said, and to take a chance with my music. I've found my joy, my purpose, and my peace."

Her latest album, Dream of You, is unique in that it tells the story of the emotions, struggles, triumphs and the journey that is DeDe’s life.  However, it’s not a blow-by-blow recounting of each and every major life event, but rather a playbook of dreams, hopes, and feelings, both positive and negative. Its full of thought-provoking lyrics: observations about the changes she’s been through, and all the emotions and relationships along the way that defined the life-shaping moments in her life.  Each song is autobiographical and details actual feelings and thoughts she had about events and experiences: songs about her dreams, hopes, disappointments and relationships that are all a part of what has made her who she is.

Every listener will be able to relate to DeDe’s dynamic and word-picture filled lyrics, since her songs tell the story of events that happen to us all. Songs that encompass the dreams of youth (Dream of You), the wild times and struggles of growing up & looking for love, such as we find in her 80’s Bon-Jovi like rock tribute: Leaning on Heaven.  We relate to her searches for acceptance and meaning in life via Prime of Life, and the rush of sexual attraction and thrill of romantic love in DeDe’s super-sexy, Latin bossa nova, Recipe of Love. Then it all unravels with her Rolling Stones-esque Sell Me Out about complete betrayal of trust, heartbreak, and being left all alone. And in the end- redemption: finding the strength to get through anything with “Stronger”, and the capacity to know and be able to give true love (Love Lives On, with Andrew Fromm on piano, writer of N-Sync’s Millenium Album).

Through the many challenges and experiences DeDe ‘s faced personally and in her music, she finally feels equipped to accept herself and her circumstances, understand the real meaning of love, and what truly matters in life. Important things like: relationships with family and friends, finding unconditional love (My Unsung Hero), a solid marriage (Today I’ll Marry My Friend), and the realization that she is comfortable with where her life has lead her.  She has also discovered how to overcome fears and the renewed ability to believe in yourself and in the one(s) you love.
