So..What Happened at the Grammy Awards? Best and Worst

Well, as a GRAMMY Voting Member (a Member of the Recording Academy, AKA THE GRAMMY's)...I thought I'd share a few of my observations about this year's GRAMMY awards. So, (for us music lovers who actually care about the direction our music and our industry's headed), here's what happened at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in LA on Jan 26, 2020:

My Houston Area Grammy Member/Preview Party Invite...

Some OVERSHADOWING BAD News:

The big news was of course that very very sadly, this was the same day that Kobe Bryant and his 13-year old daughter were killed, along with several others, in a helicopter crash in the Calabasas Canyon area outside of LA.  So naturally, this put a huge damper on the typical Grammy celebrations.

Other News and Winners:

Young (female!) artist, Billie Eilish, won album of the year, song of the year, record of the year and best new Artist of the Year. Here's what the Washington Post had to say about her amazing Grammy Sweep:

"Billie Eilish, the 18-year-old pop phenom who had the best-selling album of 2019, swept the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, winning all four of the major awards: album of the year for “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”; record and song of the year for “Bad Guy”; and best new artist."  Billie and her brother Finneas O'Connell, wrote, produced and recorded all the songs- mostly about uplifting stuff such as "depression, suicidal thoughts, being a bad guy, global warming", and so forth...
Yes folks, the other talk of the Grammy's this year was Eilish's big fetish for wearing green all over...and take a look at those NAILS!...Yikes.

To me, the biggest news about Eilish was that she has very green hair-(of course!), and is obviously quite humble and unpolished. I also thought it was sweet & cute that she said in one of her (many) acceptance speeches, that she thought that the award "should have gone to Ariana Grande".

In other breaking news, Eilish is of the few female breakout stars who doesn't look (or sound!), like either Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande! ;) (OK so this news was mine...)

Best Pop Solo performance was won by Lizzo, who I think gave a sort of cool performance during the show, not just for her unique voice, and her interesting white furry outfit, but mainly because she plays the flute (like me!). I also loved the performance by H.E.R. because she started out at the piano on her hit "Sometimes", (woo-hoo just like me too!). And then she also played the guitar near the end of her song (what?), AND she sang her song pretty well too. Woah.

Other observations:

Other OVERSHADOWING BAD news: SCANDAL!!

This show was thrown a lot of last minute curves not only due to the horrific Kobe Bryant news, but also because of the hasty exit, (yes, less than 2 weeks before the show!), of ex-Recording Academy head Deborah Dugan — the 1st ever female to run the organization — followed by her explosive lawsuit that alleges gender discrimination and sexual harassment.  By whom? To whom? Why whom? Or is this just another Hollywood #MeToo move?

Seems that a young relatively unknown female star, Eilish, pretty much took it all, so I don't really understand this lawsuit?? Is it aimed at the disproportionate number of male nominated vs. female artists, producers, etc. who were nominated, or was this alleged mysterious affront specifically aimed directly towards Ms. Dugan? And who dunnit? Please do tell us, Deborah Dearest, we want the dirt Sister!

Final Observations:

As I was voting this year, I noticed a lot more rap, hip hop and beat-loop based songs. (Surprise!), and coincidentally? less and less real musical talent, a lot of showy flashy stuff, a lot of trying to be trendy (AKA quiet, short electronically held chorded intros on almost every single pop song!), but a lot less real singing, less good writing and less instrument playing...a lot more electronic programming.

Also a lot of very strange collabs: As in: "Can you say Billy Ray Cyrus & Lil Nas X, etc., performing with just about every other rapper/hip hopper around"?  Lots of pseudo-talented and weird performances during the show too, by some big names you'd never expect like the Jonas Brothers and even Ariana herself.

And where the hec was the real Neil Peart tribute????? I mean he's an absolute LEGEND on so many levels.

I think Eilish won because she and her talented brother didn't give a crap about being trendy, sounding (or looking!) like Ariana Grande, or following current trends, but rather because they're making their own trends based on doing what they want to do, love to do, and are good at. They also sound like themselves. OK! So, summing it up, they were themselves: complete with weird green outfit, some real humility, introspective lyrics, and green matching nails and hair...How strangely refreshing...?

Maybe we could all learn a lesson or two from these two talented young 'uns about being ourselves and doing what we love to do...

So what are your thoughts on all this? Clever observations?

Till next time,
DeDe :)

DeDe's on the Larry Stevenson Show TONIGHT Tues 3/21/@6:00pmCST!

Talkin God, Family, Music & Country with Dede Wedekind (Hour1), & Mingo Henley (Hour 2) on Tuesday 03/21- The Larry Stevenson Show | Politics Conservative Podcasts

Like many Americans, singer-songwriter DeDe Wedekind noticed that our country seems to be even more divided than ever. So she did what songwriters do. The result is her new single, "America United", a song that she hopes will help "make America great again!" and help heal the divisions in our great nation.

Now on CD and available on iTunes, "America United", was originally scribbled in pencil on the back of a program as DeDe was sitting in her church choir loft, listening to an inspiring patriotic speaker. "The inspiration for this song came directly from God", says DeDe. "This message of re-unification for the hearts, minds and ideals of Americans is more important than ever, due to a marked increase in conflicts in our increasingly torn apart world."

"The message of "America United" is simple. It's about returning our country to peace, strength, safety, prosperity and greatness, by uniting all Americans", says DeDe. "It's my sincere hope that this song will help spark a movement to reunite all Americans at this crucial time in our history when there are so many racial, socioeconomic, religious, political, and other divisions in our country."

Award-winning singer-songwriter DeDe Wedekind was recently named Indie Music Channel's 2016 Best New Artist of the Year. Her new album, Dream of You (DivaPrince Productions), was released in February and won IMEA Album of the Year in 2016. November News!!

Hi there Friends and Fans!

Well another winter is upon us, and there is so much to be THANKFUL FOR!!! So here's my list of things I'm indeed thankful for (in no particular order)...

First of all, Larry and I just wrapped up a wonderfully fun & absolutely amazing Tour to Europe that included many fantastic stops in 6 countries!! and some Cruising, some performances, a lot of food, new friends, and some much needed R & R, combined with a bit of an Album Promo Tour. And, I also just found out the great news today that all of this hard work and PR is paying off: I'm now #7 on the Euro Indie Music Chart for my single "Dream of You"!!
-It takes just 2 seconds to please VOTE for me HERE ok?
I'm also in the TOP 200 of one of the Major Radio & Billboard reporting Charts, the US Digital Radio Tracking Chart! Yes, right behind Garth Brooks, which isn't too shabby-since I've always loved Garth and admire his music so much!!!
DeDe & Larry in Cabo de la Roca West Portugal
Secondly, I'm so thankful that I got to spend some quality time with a lot of my family I haven't seen for awhile, for Thanksgiving!  This includes my sister, Actress Missi Pyle from Los Angeles (and her 14 month old Adorable baby Zooey!), my Pianista & Musician extraordinaire sister from North Carolina- Julie, my little brother (and also Amazing Piano Maestro!) Gordon- from Austin, my Extraordinary brother Sam and his family, and my step kids David & Devon, and their Beautiful 6-week old baby, Mary Jane!  Also an update on my Daddy Frank: he now has advanced Altzheimers, but we were very blessed to spend Thanksgiving and yesterday with him and stepmom Lynn almost the whole afternoon, and he seemed happy, healthy, "with it" and seemed to know us! :)
DeDe & Niece Zooey
Thirdly, I'm incredibly thankful for my amazing husband Larry, who has been my rock, my inspiration, and my major supporter of me and my music "ministry" for 5+ years now! I'm so thankful for all of the blessings Larry has given me as I've pursued what I believe to be a God-given calling to write timeless, memorable and positive music. I write music for folks who may need to hear a word of encouragement, truth, love and hope, and may need to know that someone out there relates to how they're feeling and what they're going through- yes, me--and God that is!

I'm also extremely grateful to God my Heavenly Father, and Lord Jesus Christ for giving me this awesome (and yes I'll admit, sometimes scary!) gift and responsibility, for it isn't me who is the "author" of these songs.  I firmly believe they are sent to me from Heaven, and that I was called to share these songs with others to make LIFE BETTER for those who may need to hear them here on earth!

I'm also so happy to announce that I'm either a Semi-FINALIST, a FINALIST or WINNER for the following: 2016 UK Songwriting Contest, 2016 Dallas Songwriters Contest, The International Songwriting Contest, Music IN Radio Contest (and too many others to mention!) at this time, all by the Grace of God!

Lastly, I'm very thankful to YOU my Friends, Supporters, Stations playing my music, & MY Amazing FANS! For without you and your love, encouragement, purchases, kindness, comments, music plays, friendship, LIKES, FOLLOWS, SHARES and support, I would not be able to continue to write and produce music. You see this is a very hard business to be a positive light in a dark world right now. So I really appreciate your continued prayers, support and all you do to lift my days!

Upcoming EVENTS/Shows: NOW all are on my Website Reverbnation.com/DeDeWedekind, but a few highlights are:
